TREATMENTSThe following list represents some of the areas I work with using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. The list is not exhaustive, so please email or call me if you need further information.
The client needs to be willing to work with me to achieve change, I don’t have a magic wand but I do have
experience working with clients to bring about positive change.
Many people are caught in the cycle of yoyo dieting and know how frustrating it can be to put the weight back on that they had battled so hard to loose. Addictions to sugar and fat is very common as we are surrounded by supermarkets, fast food outlets, café’s and adverts all tempting us to eat more and more. Hypnotherapy can help you to focus on what you want, help you remain motivated and lose weight in a steady way. This can change how your mind looks at food for the better.
Small Group Weight Loss Course
I also run small group weight loss course with approx. five people. This consists of three sessions that are two weeks apart to show you the changes that are taking place. You will understand how and why your unwanted cravings and eating habits have become hard wired into your brain, and you will learn to adjust your thought patterns, break habits and change them for the better. This is not about calories, but it is about how you can take calm control of your mind around food in all situations.
Anxiety is a general feeling of unease. It can creep up on you and have a debilitating effect on your quality of life. Anxiety is a normal reaction to threat, however, it is only helpful if we are in danger. Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool that can help anxiety and stress by encouraging positive thinking and through understanding how our mind reacts to threat, we can choose to respond in a different way.
Compulsive thinking or rituals are a disorder that causes a person to experience intense or insistent thoughts which has a significantly disruptive effect on their life. OCD is a high alert response to a perceived threat, heightening your stress response dramatically. Hypnotherapy can help by balancing this out and enabling you to return to feeling safe and secure again.
Feeling stressed and anxious before an exam is expected and feeling nervous is a natural emotion. Lots of people will find these feelings a motivator, but some of us will find the pressure overwhelming. When these feelings become intense, they can threaten performance and sometimes the stress can cause a person to achieve below their true potential.
Hypnotherapy is used for helping control exam nerves as it can boost confidence and reduce feelings of anxiety. It can help you develop the ability to access the calm state of mind needed to sit an exam, or cope with a potentially overwhelming situation.
So often people have lived with this problem for many years, which in the main can be easily sorted. Sleep is necessary for our quality of life. It affects our moods, our productivity through to our health. During sleep we process the stress of the day, so it is crucial that we get enough. Hypnotherapy is a useful and powerful tool to help you get your sleeping under control. It can quickly promote better sleeping patterns and quality of sleep.
Phobias of all kinds, such as fear of heights, spiders, enclosed spaces, motorway driving, flying, visiting the dentist and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be helped with hypnosis. Through hypnotherapy the brain can learn how to create new habits and train your mind to gain control over your reactions, helping you to relax and bring your levels of anxiety down.
Taking part in any sport at a competitive level involves a great deal of physical control and mental concentration. It is now accepted that hypnosis can provide both of these.
Coaches are aware that the difference between a confident athlete and one in doubt is profound. Sportsmen can do better than they think, but only when they think they can do better. Hypnotherapy can help you be the best you possibly can be.
Hypnotherapy allows you to remove the triggers and negative responses that can be encountered due to pre-competition nerves or self-belief issues. Through simple relaxation and various other techniques, you can become focused on what you really want to achieve.
Hypnotherapy can be used by world champions and amateurs alike, enabling them to fulfil their true potential.
Depression can feel like a lonely place to be. Your brain is being starved of the chemicals that we naturally produce and which helps us cope with what life throws at us. We stop thinking, interacting and acting in a positive way. Hypnotherapy can help you by encouraging the release of the essential chemicals needed to promote an optimistic outlook.
Research has shown the effectiveness of hypnosis in all areas of childbirth and particularly in helping a woman to overcome her fears, tension and pain cycle. This may not only influence her decision on the use of invasive analgesics but, in increasingly more cases, her decision about opting for a caesarean delivery when not medically necessary. We have taken on the belief that childbirth must be painful and so it is very rewarding to teach women to overcome their fears and teach them how to control the sensations in her body in what is, after all, one of the most natural functions a woman’s body is designed to carry out.
The ultimate goal of self-hypnosis in childbirth is to provide you with a better birthing experience. Of course all births are different and self- hypnosis is not a guarantee that all will run smoothly. Rather it looks to give you back control and a better chance of feeling relaxed, calm and happier throughout.
IBS affects one in five people and can be triggered by stress, and very rapidly can become a habit that seems to overtake everyday life. Hypnotherapy can help you to manage stress and anxiety and promote chemicals that eases our anxiety levels, helping us to feel better able to cope.
Eating is something we all have to do to live, but for some the relationship with food becomes complex. Some people may develop unusual eating habits or become emotionally reliant on food. This is commonly referred to as “disordered eating”.
Eating disorders are different and they change the way you think or behave especially in relation to food or diet. The most common are:
The aim of hypnotherapy is to use the power of suggestion to change habits. Using positive suggestions under hypnosis can also help change the way you think about yourself.
If suffering from an eating disorder I recommend that you also see your GP for further medical advice.
Why is it some people can give up smoking easily and others keep trying but return to smoking when they have difficulties in their life. This one off two hour session will explain how you can have a pro smoking and anti-smoking lobby in your mind and how the pro smoking part can take over.
Through the session you will understand how your mind works and realise that your body is not addicted to nicotine but it is your mind that believes this. Hypnotherapy has an excellent success rate in transforming you into non-smoker by the end of the session.
A panic attacks occurs when your body experiences a sudden onset of intense symptoms. Usually an attack will begin with a sudden feeling of intense fear or panic, this is then generally followed by physical symptoms such as heart palpitations, nausea and sweating. If you are experiencing panic attacks regularly it is worth visiting your doctor to discuss your treatment options.
Hypnotherapy has proven effective with anxiety, fear and stress and so lends itself well to the treatment of panic attacks. Through hypnosis you will learn to relax deeply and so reduce your overall anxiety and so lower your risk of having an attack.
Anger can be a useful emotion that triggers a physical reaction in the body. This reaction is called ‘fight or flight’ and it normally happens when we are stressed or threatened. Adrenaline is pumped around the body making you feel tense.
The problem here is that fighting or running away isn’t usually an appropriate option. This can make it difficult for us to express anger, and this is where some people develop a problem. When you aren’t able to express your anger, you bottle it up. This can cause angry outbursts at inappropriate times. It may also make you feel more angry in general, leading you to react more aggressively in other situations.
Hypnotherapy can help with anger management problems in several ways. In understanding how your mind works, you will learn through relaxation how to change your negative thought processes and the best ways for you to control your anger.
Confidence can have a huge impact on the way we think, the way we feel and on the choices we make. Have you missed out on a career, relationship or move you wanted due to not feeling able to ask for what you wanted? You can experience feelings of worthlessness, not being heard and anger that others don’t notice you. Hypnotherapy can help you find a more positive you through visualisation and chemical changes in your brain, promoting a happy and more relaxed you.
